Why Choose Wordpress?

I am no expert at blogging. I know a little about tweaking my “CMS”. So far I have no serious problems with the installation and maintenance of my blog. As I’ve mention here, I have tested, thought not thorough, other blogging and CMS tools. And so far wordpress satisfies my blogging and CMS needs.

Why would you choose wordpress over other free alternatives like blogger? Wordpress is free in the sense that you do not have to pay for it, but you’ll have to pay for the hosting. There are other sites that offer free wordpress hosting without strings attached. Not even ads. You can put your own ads and earn from it if you like. One of which is Weblogs.us. I have not tried creating an account there — I hate to waste their resources. Wordpress is easy to install. It is very powerful. With the help of freely available plugins, you can turn wordpress from a simple blogging tool into a powerful CMS. Yes, it is capable of being CMS. The abundance of plugins created by its dedicated users and developers makes it the most customizable blogging and CMS tool around. Its support community are fast and eager to help you solve any issues you have from installation to customizing it.

I have tried blogger before I even discovered wordpress. That was when google bought blogger from Pyra Labs. Blogger is the simplest blogging you can use. The default and other templates available are quite nice and pretty without further tweaking. Best of all, it is free as in potato chips (are they?). One downside of using blogger is that you are limited to one category only. Another downside is that its simplicity which makes it great is also its major flaw, it is hard to customize it for there are no plugins for it that I know of.
