After installing GIMPShop in lieu of Adobe Photoshop, I began to realize that I am almost free/open source user. My love affair with free/open source softwares started when there was a big debate on whether to open source Java or not. Looking further, I found Python. I never looked back since then.
Now I always try to find free/open source alternatives to programs I use. The only things that remain non-free with what I use are the microsft products that came with the purchase of my notebook. I’m fine with using WinXP. I still have MS Office even though I am using OpenOffice. Mind you, these are all legit.
Here are the list of softwares I use on a daily basis:
- Mozilla Firefox – web browser
- Mozilla Thunderbird – email client
- Filezilla – FTP client
- Activegrid and Pythonwin – Python based IDE for coding
- GIMPShop – image manipulation
- OpenOffice – office suite
- AVG Antivirus – free version
- ZoneAlarm – lite version
- Python, PHP, Perl – programming
- MySQL, PostgreSQL, SQLite – databases
