Why We Hate Starbucks
Not really that I hate them. This article at INeedCoffee explains why you should or shouldn’t hate Starbucks. Oh… coffee? My third today.
What to write
I know I have to post something here. Dammit. Am I having bloggers block? Maybe I’m just overwhelmed with work. I’m having my hands full of work both from my job and daily routines and all that things that has to do with the government - e.g. licenses.
Blind Blogger
Podz brought this up to the WP-Hacker’s mailinglist asking for accessiblity support for Wordpress. Not even blindness can stop René Jaun from blogging. Amazing.
Link Proximity
Does the proximity of the links in a webpage determine their quality? There are other ways that search engines determine the quality of the links in a webpage other than the PageRank of the page or the relevance of the content.
One of my hunch is that the proximity of the links from each other can be one of the determining factor of its quality. For example, it is common to see links displayed as list in sidebars. It is easy for one to analyze that they must be a blogroll, reciprocal links, or paid links which search engines can tag as low quality links that has nothing to do with the content.
I believe that links that are embedded in the content like citation links have higher quality in search engines than those listed somewhere. Being embedded in the content, it suggests that it is needed somehow especially if it is relevant with the topic. Search engines view these links as authoritative as they are often use to point to the source.
I think this is the reason why “Presell Pages” and “submitted articles” are seen as an effective way to increase PageRank and SERPs. Or it is just my flawed and untrained view of search engine optimization. Or maybe it is just my imagination.
MS Office 2007 pricing
Microsoft announces their MS Office 2007 price details. Standard Office stands at $399. That’s roughly Php 20,000 in the Philippines. I’ll stick with my MS Office 2000. I don’t get to use office productivity tools often lately anyway.
BlogCode
Ever wonder whose blog closely resemble yours in terms of content and writing style? Try BlogCode and see whose blog matches yours. Oh… Mine closely matches Scobleizer - Microsoft Geek Blogger. Funny, I found out about BlogCode thru his blog.
Alexadex
I had always wanted to be a stock trader, hence my degree in economics. But I wasn’t lucky enough to land a job in the stock exchange building and I have found a new love in software development. Then Alexadex virtual stock trading game similar to Blogshares came along. Let’s see if I was mistaken to have dump that dream.
In Alexadex, you are trading shares in blogs. And values are based on Alexa ranking. So far I’m losing 50% of my portfolio value. Great, just great.
Learning Java, again
I am thinking of taking up Java lessons again. It’s been quite a while since I last code in Java. Now that I’m deep into web development, why not take J2EE and hope to get a higher paying Java jobs in the near future. It’s only that Sun’s web development technology has so many acronyms that makes my head ache figuring them out. I miss those time when JSP was pretty young that I can whip up a webapp in a week with no much hassle. Now, I have to go through gazillions of xml files just to print “Hello World”. Oh well.
As I’ve said earlier, there’s so many technology under Java that I have a hard time choosing which path to follow. There’s a decision to be made. For now, it’s Struts or Spring or JSF? Ahhhh… I might as well try each one and see which one fits me.
Or I can be a SEO. Just a little more time and a couple more experiments, I’ll get a hang out of SEOing sites. But then, again, the programmer in me says I gotta wield codes.
Affiliates, anyone?
When adsense seem not working for me on this site, I decided to go ahead and tried affiliating, again. This time with something that I can relate with. I signed up to be an affiliate for www.text-link-ads.com since I was selling text links through them and they had been good at it. So why not help them find more text link buyers and publishers.
Why is affiliating good for both the referrer and the referred? We’re not talking about pyramiding scheme here. It’s just that if you really liked what was offered, the person who referred you should be rewarded for pointing you to the right direction. Internet affiliating is not something that will take something away from you. Most of the affiliate program being offered in the internet are free. When you find a product or service that you really like and would have bought it eventually anyway, why not find someone who is affiliated with the program. You are actually helping your referrer.
In my case, I am an affiliate of www.text-link-ads.com, if you sign up to become a publisher, there are no added cost to you. It’s just that I receive a small referral fee from text-link-ads for referring you. You too can become an affiliate and earn from it.
To those who sign up with www.text-link-ads.com using my affiliate’s banner, thank you very much.
Yahoo Publisher Network downtime
Yahoo’s ad network suffered a downtime yesterday - February 10, 2006. I bet you, many people lost money during that 12 hour outtage.
