Wordpress Widgets
It’s out. Wordpress Widgets, a plugin, for Wordpress blogs is out for people like me to devour. It’s basically a sidebar customization plugin that lets you rearrange your sidebar/s without too much coding.
What’s in it for me? Well, for one, my Sideblog plugin si close to version 3 release. Same with Wordpress Widgets, it will make life easier for users to install and customize the plugin without touching a single code other than uploading at the very least.
A sneak peek into what will be Sideblog 3 is that it will have a management panel, multiple asides category, no source code editing and, most of all, no sidebar theme editing - thanks to Wordpress Widgets.
Rai Rai Ken Fascination
France and I ate at Rai Rai Ken in SM City Iloilo twice this week and once last week. I can’t figure out our fascination for japanese fastfood. I’m still not over their Seafood Hot Pot. Looking forward to visiting the place again next week. Is it just us two or there are other who actually liked their food? Got tons of traffic from Google for the term Rai Rai Ken which tells me we’re not alone.
SEO Scamming 101
I never knew SEO scamming was easy. But really they still do work.
Paypal goes mobile
Paypal goes mobile. Great. But I’m still waiting for the day Paypal goes to the Philippines. As for now, Xoom.com works for me.
iPod Nano Magnet
My all-time favorite blogger, Yuga, won an iPod twice from the same website. I’m heading over there to see if there are still some left.
Next in Wordpress
I have a alpha version of Wordpress running in for testing purposes and I like what they have for the next release of the popular blog CMS. Links will be gone. They will be replaced by Bookmarks. There are others that will make blog publishing easy for users. You’ll just have to wait for it.
Google Search Api
I tried using Google Search Api with Python to facilitate reporting of the estimated number of results of a list of websites. The result given by directly querying in the Google website is different from that obtained by my Python script especially when restricting the query for a specific site - “site:domain”. The results are the same when “link:domain” is used. I’m using SOAPpy Python web services toolkit.
I don’t know if the results are the same when other languages are used like PHP or Perl. I was going to try it using PHP but my installed version - PHP4.3.1 - in my home PC does not support SOAP. This once again reminded me to have Perl installed for times like these when I need to play around with functionalities.
Iloilo, BPO and Power Interruptions
Iloilo City is an ideal place to put up a BPO services center. It is home to the Philippines’ best private and state universities. Iloilo City have more student population than any other city in Visayas and Mindanao.
Business Process Outsourcing(BPO) bring opportunities to those who wanted to remain in the country. It is the investment type that holds the promise of giving jobs to many Filipinos. BPO make us leverage our advantage in english language.
And yet, we do not invest in the one requirement that BPO needs - electricity. Power interruptions in Iloilo City is escalating with 1 to 4 hours of outage every other day. Good if all BPO companies can afford generator sets but some startup can’t. Good if all BPOs are foreign funded but what about those small shops who are operated by locals. An hour of lost work is already too much, not counting the risk of damage to hardwares and lost of data. For Iloilo to catch up, it needs new soures of power or else we will be stuck with mom-and-pops grocer type of business.
Practicing Linking Best Practices
Linking “Best Practices” is a must read for people who are fond of link blogging.
Motorcycle Pimping
A new motorcycle shop opened beside our office building yesterday and they had this motorcade to showcase their stuff. A motorcycle club was invited to take part in the parade and, boy, you gotta see the toys they brought. Those things run on the streets, legally, and may leave you in the dust. I saw some Nitros. Others even have stereos. I heard they have motorshows for these.
I was able to talk to one owner. He was proud to say that he had shelled out almost $2000 pimping his bike that there are very few stock parts remain. I took some photos below.
