Internet Explorer Screwed

My Internet Explorer (IE6), both in my work and home computer, is behaving badly. I have noticed this just over a month ago but since I was not using IE at all for surfing, I didn’t care to repair it. I only use it for occasional checking when I have web design projects. Now I’m paying for not doing something at all.

My problem is that when I launch IE, it seem to be ok and loads my default webpage. The problem starts when I typed a URL in the address box. I will surely get a “Windows cannot find ‘(null)’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.” message. I tried disabling and uninstalling add-ons and plugins. To no avail.

I didn’t know IE will be this hard to troubleshoot. So much for having the browser comes with the Operating System. There’s just no way for me to uninstall it and install a fresh copy without going through risky procedures. One extreme suggestion from Microsoft website: uninstall and reinstall Windows XP. That’s the last thing I will do. And it’s not only on my home pc, my work machine too is suffering from the same behavior.

My work project requires me to deal with Internet Explorer. Who wouldn’t? IE still holds the chunk of web surfers. And believe me I am too careful in installing just about anything on my PC. I only put what’s necessary. Yes, no bleeding edge apps installed here. No games, not even Windows XP included games (yes, no solitaire here).

Any of you ever experienced the same weird IE behavior or knows how to fix this? Please drop me a comment. I badly needed a fix.

For the meantime, you can use other browsers that makes use of the IE engine : Avant, Maxthon, etc. However, if you encounter the same problem, then it’s probably the IE engine that is really the problem.

Speaking of IE, I am using that browser everyday ;) I got no choice :P

more info would help. but you can try to search for spywares/malwares which comes as BHOs for starters. if none found, goto Tools/Internet Options then the Advanced tab. once there, click on “Restore Defaults”.

if none of the above fixed it, holler and give us more info.

Did that already. Nothing. Problem’s still there.
