Google Checkout Not Really a PayPal Killer - Yet

I was excited when read about Google Checkout in SEO Philippines Yahoo Groups. The prospect of being able to accept online payments (donations?) on my site securely is too much. But further reading the FAQ stops me.

At this time, only merchants with a U.S. address and bank account can process transactions through Google Checkout. We look forward to offering more options in the future.

Just like PayPal, Checkout is only available to US residents with US bank accounts. Although I can still signup for me to be able to purchase goods online but then again I don’t. I just love buying things which I can actually hold, smell or check for defects.

I just hope Checkout will be avaible to Philippine residents in the future and ahead of PayPal, then it will be PayPal killer for us here.

Update: Abe cleared in the SEO Philippines forum that still no way for Phil. residents to signup for Checkout unless the credit card used is a US issued one.

Well this problem, if you may call it, will exist for a long time unless our government and crazy politicians do something about money laundering laws which these companies are very particular about.

As an OFW, we are facing problems also with banks especially when we are remitting huge amount of dollars.

Wishing also that what you are hoping for Checkout will materialize soon.

payplus gateway has been down for 6 months.

payeasy setup cost for merchants is P25k and a monthly maintenance fee of P5k or 6% of sales if greater.

with no set up and monthly cost, Philippines could gain a new economy.

With that fee, I’m better off using xoom.com for now. No maintenance fee and my clients learned to trust their service. Good thing they accept paypal payments. Plus, it’s easy to setup an account. No requirements needed except only if you wanted the funds deposited directly to your bank.
