Ruby
I’m starting to see Ruby’s beauty. I’m reading her diary.
Globelines Problem Workaround
If you are having problems accessing and sending emails through your GMail or Yahoo, or you’re having problems publishing to your blog, or you’re FTP uploads keep on stalling and your broadband provider is Globelines, don’t waste your time calling their tech support. They won’t be help when the trouble is beyond your upload and download speed.
I was having problem uploading a couple of days ago. Globelines tech support kept on asking my download speed using their Globequest utility. I was not concerned on how fast my download or upload speed was. I was having problem getting my uploads finish.
Good thing there was a thing called tracepath. I was able to locate where the problem is. Tracepath was reporting This router returned corrupted payload from three Globelines IP addresses. Meaning something is wrong with their router. No not the one I’m using here. It’s the one on their network since the IP addresses that generate the errors is already out of my network.
One workaround I discovered is to unplug the modem and turn off the PC for at least 10 minutes - maybe to let Globelines network program detect idle IP address and assign it to other and give me a new one on restart. This occurs at least twice a day.
Programming With Dream Theater
Today’s coding activity is powered by Dream Theater. The perks of working at home. John Petrucci is a guitar god.
Weekend with Kids
France and I went to visit the kids yesterday. It’s drizzling a bit but the roads is much better now except for the whole stretch that passes through Passi City. It was just horrible. Hearing the car rattle against the road can make your curse. Capiz’s road are much, much better now and you can see the progress they’re making.

As usual, I took pictures and I just have to download them to the PC. The camera still has pictures from our last visit. Since I am in the habit of taking pictures again I have decided to use Flickr once again to post them here.
We brought Max’s reward, My Little Pony toys, for having honors in school. Yeah, I know. France and I shouldn’t have made promises of rewards for their performance. That’s negative reinforcement. Being a parent, you can’t just help giving rewards when kids are doing good in school. Even without that promise, we would’ve given them their wish anyway.
CodeIgniter 1.4.1
A few days into 1.4.1 and the CodeIgniter team released version 1.4.1. That was quick. But hey. If bugs needed to be quashed, so be it.
Multiple Sideblog
I don’t know if somebody already knows this. I didn’t see anyone having multiple sideblogs. This is actually nifty if you run some sort of a news site.
Remove the Laptop Battery
Since I mostly work at home using the laptop as my primary machine, I removed the battery and rely solely on direct AC power. This was after I read somewhere that the biggest culprit for the decline in battery life of Li-Ion batteries is head generated by laptops.
My laptop is running 16 hours a day. That’s how much time the battery is exposed to heat. No wonder I can only squeeze 1.5 hours from the battery when mobile. That’s not enough time to finish a script.
I had the battery stored in a cool dry place to lessen the the discharge rate. My problem now is run the risk of losing data due to power interruptions (it’s common here in Iloilo). Maybe it’s time to look for a UPS.
