My Hostmonster Story
When I decided to get another domain as my gift to self I went to look for a good web host. I already have a couple of sites hosted with my current host and since I’m constantly adding sites to my list of online properties, I have to look for ways to cut down on hosting cost. Yeah. I’m cheap. Well, these sites I own does not really attract that much traffic so I don’t worry about performance issues. A shared hosting is fine with me.
I found out about hostmonster through my boss. His blog attracts more visitors than mine, I believe , because he is well known in his niche. He had his blog moved to hostmonster a few months ago. First time I visited Hostmonster I didn’t believe how they can offer 50 GB and 999 GB of traffic for, at that time, $9.95. So I waited and see if my boss will have some sort of hosting trouble. To this date, no complains from him.
I’m only with hostmonster for less than a week. So far I’m ok. If everything is good with them, I’ll be transferring my other sites to them. 50 GB is more than I need at the moment. I can host my other friends and relatives sites.
Evanescence - The Open Door
Another of my current music while working is from Evanescence latest album The Open Door. The first two tracks Sweet Sacrifice and Call Me When You’re Sober rocks. This is one album that should be played loud.
Unwired
Finally, I got rid of the wires. I’ll be having a bit more leeway in doing online work. I wonder how will working outside the house affect work.
Rails vs Django Comparison
Scratching your head which one to use? Read this comparison document. Yes, I was even more confused after. Why can’t people take sides nowadays.
Using Zooomr
I’m using Zooomr as my photo repository in kates.gasis.net. I was supposed to be using Flickr if not for their cap on the number of images to display. I’ve max out Flickr’s 200 pictures limit for free account a long long time ago.
Back to Zooomr. Zooomr’s monthly upload limit for their free account is more than double that of Flickr. At 100 MB monthly upload bandwidth it’s good enough for trigger-happy, less-than-amateur point-and-click photographer like me. I don’t deserve to be called a photographer, but for lack of terms to grasp right now, I’ll leave it at that.
Like I said, Flickr’s cap on number of photos that can be displayed sent me to try out Zooomr. Regular folks with a point and click camera are in it for photo album type app that will show off their entire collection to family and friends. If you ever attended a town fiesta in some not so remote provinces of the Philippines, you know what I’m talking about. They plan to show their entire collection, not just the recent 200 photos they took. We Filipinos are just too nostalgic.
The only thing missing with Zooomr right now is their API. Maybe it’s just me not finding it. And also, maybe they could make a Zooomr badge like what Flickr did early in their existence. That was viral. Everybody wanted one.
Gift to Self
My birthday was two weeks ago and I didn’t really bought anything for myself. Well, I just did. I bought the domain gasis.net and I started a more personal, family oriented blog over at kates.gasis.net. It’s also a photo album of sort.
Mig’s new blog made me decide to start another. And just like him, I vow not to put ads on it.
Boo.com Coming Back
Boo.com is rumored to be back in 2007. Are they back to burst the bubble again?
CodeIgniter 1.5.1
CodeIgniter 1.5.1 is released and it fixed the bug in their Oracle driver that returns empty resultsets in SELECT SQL query. I’m definitely using Oracle in my next personal toy project.
Prototype Modal CSS Window
Just discovered this amazing javascript library for modal CSS window over at http://prototype-window.xilinus.com. Too bad, I’ve hacked Lightbox Gone Wild from Particletree to fit our current project.
Oil Spill Part 2
The barge that collected the oil sludge in Guimaras also sunk.
