Got a nikon and a macbook
It’s been a while since the last time I actually blogged. So, maybe, to get things started again on this side of the networked world I am very happy to say that there’s a lot of new things I got myself into.
Two weeks ago I bought a Nikon digital SLR. It was hard deciding which system to buy. Canon also makes great cameras. In fact, I know more Canon than Nikon users. In the end I went with the cheapest one I liked. I bought a Nikon D40. For a couple more bucks I could have got a Canon 400D but the D40 just feels right during the tests. I’ve been out shooting most of the time ever since. The shots? They’re crappy at best.
And just today, I finally decided to get a Macbook. I have a month old Acer that I’m using to communicate to my family back in the Philippines. The Acer Aspire running Ubuntu works -well, almost - perfectly. The trackpad is so dumb it’s jumping all over the place. It doesn’t have a on/off button I came to love from my Compaq Presario. Writing code in the Aspire is a pain in the ass.
Like the DSLR, I have been wanting to get a Macbook ever since. I just didn’t have any compelling reason to get one. The real thing is really a joy to look and touch.

Congratulations on your new toys! I also wanted a SLR but I couldn’t afford it so I bought a Canon Powershot S3 IS for a really good price. Since I’m still new to photography, I thought it was better that I learn first with this camera and buy a better camera when my skills have improved.
I also wanted a Macbook and again, because I couldn’t afford it I went and bought a Compaq Presario C714NR. Having an on/off button for the trackpad really helps especially if you’re using an external mouse.
Have fun with your new toys!

@Jaypee
Thanks. I’m trying to learn the art of photography and I thought an entry level DSLR will train me on basics of doing everything manually. As for the macbook, I’m working fulltime with rails and my colleagues use macbooks so I was suckered (always am a sucker for simple designs, btw) into buying one.

hahaha jalex my man. there’s nothing special about a dslr. I rarely use it anymore after a month. there are many people using point and shoot that capture better picture than me with my dslr.

Congratulations! The Nikon D40 is an awesome camera. You might as well have gotten a D40X though. Post ka naman ng sample photos!

@dennison:
For me, the extra features D40X have over D40 does not justify the price gap. I bought added a better lens instead. Sample pictures? I still can’t find one to show off but I have an account in one of the popular photo-sharing sites.

ok naman ng D40X at least mas maganda ang quality ng kit lens niya compared to Canon.

Is SLR really better than just the common digital cameras? I have Sony DSC T70 and I asked my professional photographer friend that I am thinking of buying the Nikon D40 to have a start-up on getting good pictures, because I am not satisfied with the quality of the pictures taken from my Sony T70. My friend owns Nikon D200 and I really like the quality of the photos he has taken: http://www.flickr.com/photos/reedexter/
He told me that it is just the magic of Photoshop that shows the beauty of those pictures .. but he would rather prefer to have a Sony DSC T70 than Nikon D40 … so I didn’t buy an SLR .. perhaps I would just save till I will have enough money to buy the latest and best SLR in the market …
What do you think … is my friend right?
