WiFi Freeloaders
I didn’t really bothered setting up my wireless router’s security configuration when I installed it earlier this week. I intentionally left it open just to see if any of my neighbors will pick up the signal as suggested by a friend. Well they did.
My router reported another machine with a different MAC address using the first IP in my network given by DHCP. I don’t know how good are the security of my router or the WEP but I have to enable them. I just have too many sensitive data lying around apart from the fact that I subscribed to a slower internet connection.
Unwired
Finally, I got rid of the wires. I’ll be having a bit more leeway in doing online work. I wonder how will working outside the house affect work.
Going Wireless at Home
I was thinking of going wireless at home for the longest time now. It’ll give me the mobility I always wanted. What the heck I had a laptop for?
My reason was nothing more than vanity. I feel that my eyesight is starting to suffer for working in the bedroom. It’s convenient and pretty quiet to work there but I would love to work where there are greens to look at when thinking a lot and not coding. I’d love to be in the garden coding. Staring at the screen for 8 hours or so, I need to look far. I also prefer natural lighting.
Good thing, I got a good buddy willing to sell his old wireless router for dirt cheap price. Hey, what are friends for? I was buying second hand computer parts and accessories from him. I don’t believe in being flashy when it comes to tech devices. I see them as a big waste of money. I just live with what I have and use them to their fullest potential. The same reason why I’m settling for a second had wireless router. As long as it gets the job done, it’s fine with me.
I still have to wait for a couple of days/weeks though until he finds a decent adapter for his point to point WiFi antenna. This may just be in time until I figured out a way to organize my home office corner.
